InfoDonna Cansfield has been an extraordinarily busy representative for Etobicoke Centre since her election to the Legislature in October 2003. She became the first female Minister of Transportation of the Province of Ontario in May 2006.

Prior to taking on this senior Cabinet post, Donna served as Minister of Energy and, in this role, introduced Bill 21, the first of its kind in Canada, demonstrating the McGuinty government’s commitment to energy conservation. The Energy Conservation Responsibility Act 2006 was passed by the Legislature in February 2006.

Before becoming a Minister, Donna was Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Energy and Chair of the government’s Conservation Action Team. She also served on a number of government committees as a Member of Caucus.

Prior to becoming an MPP, Donna served Etobicoke Centre as a school trustee for 15 years and, ultimately, Chair of the Toronto District School Board.

Donna has the honour of representing a riding with Canada’s largest proportion of senior citizens and has worked with seniors individually and through her advisory committee to foster many means of support for seniors in the community. She has worked throughout her years of public service as a Director of the Dorothy Ley Hospice, Vice-Chair of the Toronto Foundation for Student Success, and as a Director of Beatrice House, a shelter for homeless families.

Donna and her Constituency Office team have formed many partnerships with community groups and a number of advisory committees to provide them with intimate knowledge of the community’s concerns, needs and wishes. Donna believes that “listening to and learning from the community are the only ways to safeguard and promote the interests of democracy.”

Donna resides in Etobicoke Centre with her husband, Bill. They have two children, Jennie and D’Arcy, who live and work in Ontario.
