| Info | A long-time Cambridge resident, Carla Johnson is an educator, author, enthusiastic community volunteer and inspiring public speaker.
Carla spent her career as a charismatic middle school teacher. She has a passion for youth involvement and a desire to empower young people to have a strong political voice.
“The voice of young people is essential in politics. Environmental instability along with media tension and other factors are contributing to youth mental health struggles at an astounding rate.”
Carla believes community spirit is the heart of a good society. She launched CMH Lunch Is On Us, an initiative that fed hospital workers 3,000 free lunches during the early crisis of COVID-19. She has seen and heard first-hand the struggles of nurses during the pandemic, and is a strong proponent of increasing support for this vital part of our healthcare system.
More recently, Carla served on the Cambridge Poppy Project team, a collection of art installations of over 33,000 hand-knit and crocheted poppies for Remembrance 2021. She has self-published two books and was the V.P. of Corporate Affairs for the Bravo Group in Mississauga supporting start-up businesses across the province. An accomplished singer and piano player, Carla has a passion for the arts.
Carla and her husband Steven raised their child here in Cambridge. As the mother of a trans non-binary person, Carla is a champion for the Green Party’s values of inclusion and diversity.
She has built strong connections across the many parts of our city. An engaged listener and a confident advocate, Carla is a caring bridge builder, dedicated to serving her community.
