Marilyn Raphael is an empathic and accomplished leader with a passion for people and advancing public interest issues. She has over 15 years of experience working in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors in Ontario and is currently a Vice President in a leading North American asset management firm. Together with her husband Derrick, she is also the co-founder of ICON Talent Partners, a not-for-profit talent development organization for high potential BIPOC talent that is focused on closing the opportunity gap and diversifying leadership teams at some of Canada’s largest companies.
A native of Ghana, Marilyn came to Canada at age four and spent her formative years in the greater Toronto area. She has first-hand experience of the challenges many newcomer families experience as well as the many opportunities available for those who may need a hand-up and not a hand-out. Marilyn believes in the balance between helping oneself and government ensuring that people have the supports to thrive. This is why she is a Liberal.
For the last 10+ years, Marilyn has called Brampton her home and has continued her commitment to advancing various public interest issues including child and maternal health, youth development and employment, as well as healthcare and police reform. In 2019, Marilyn was recognized by the Brampton Board of Trade as a recipient of Brampton’s Top 40 Under 40 Award.
Marilyn understands the various challenges Bramptonians face including the need for an additional hospital, affordable and safe housing, and fair car insurance rates to name a few. She has the knowledge, experience, and political acuity to make sound decisions, build great partnerships, and deliver the results that Bramptonians want and need.
Marilyn comes well prepared to bring evidence to decision making, experience in managing various stakeholders to find common ground, and a proven track record of working with cross-functional teams to devise strategy and execute plans effectively and efficiently.
A mother of two young boys, Harper and Preston, Marilyn is committed to creating a future that her sons and all Bramptonians will be proud of.
She too is over politicians talking a good game and not delivering for the city. She is about actions, not words. Marilyn is excited to help rebuild the Ontario Liberal Party and to serve the community in Brampton South by being your representative at Queen’s Park!
