| Info | A lifelong resident of Muskoka, Doug has had the opportunity to gain insight into some of the unique challenges of living and working in Muskoka Parry Sound. A former owner/operator of a small business, he is familiar with the struggles small independent businesses face competing with big corporate box stores and online retailers. Covid-19 has only made it tougher for these businesses. Doug is committed to making sure that the restrictions imposed during the pandemic not only be ended but never be allowed to be implemented again so that small businesses can thrive. As a Real Estate Sales Representative Doug has seen the impact that rising housing prices are having on people’s ability to afford a place to live and the government’s lack of an effective plan to combat the rising costs of owning a home. Currently employed as a Project Coordinator for a local organization operating residential group homes for people with special needs, he sees firsthand how government restricts the ability to operate a business. The Covid 19 pandemic has demonstrated how unprepared our government is to manage emergency crisis situations in the health care and social service sectors. It was frustration with current governments, and concern over the direction they are leading us in that led to Doug’s desire to be a part of what he strongly believes are much-needed changes to ensure that the people of Parry Sound Muskoka can return to having a prosperous, fulfilling life and ensure a promising future for generations to come.
