InfoD.G. Anderson is a popular political and business leader in Hawai'i. He is a former state legislator and managing director of the City and County of Honolulu. Most recently, he was Chairman of the Republican Party of Hawai'i. He is most famous as the owner and proprietor of John Dominis, a formal dining restaurant and is a high-profile land developer.

D.G. Anderson, more commonly known by locals as Andy Anderson, was born in the historic Kalihi district of Honolulu on Kamehameha IV Road.

His own background is diverse with Hawai'ian, Norwegian, English, Scottish and Portuguese ancestries. His parents are John Domninis Anderson and Evelyn Garrida, the son and daughter of famous missionary and political families in the Hawai'ian Kingdom. His family tree reads like a local history book with last names like Cockett, Kanae, Parker, Richardson and Farden.

Anderson was a student at Roosevelt High School but never graduated. He quit school early to work as a lumberjack, an electrician and later as a member of the Eastman Kodak company.

Eastman Kodak led Anderson on a road to success as an innovative entrepreneur. He would later own the largest photography operation in Hawai'i. He was only 20 at the time.

A few years later, Anderson would get his first taste at political life helping a friend's campaign for the state legislature. His observations led him to believe he could do a better job than most career politicians he had encountered. He ran for office and won.

He would spend twenty years in elected service. He served in both houses of the Hawai'i State Legislature from 1962 to 1982. In 1983 to 1984, Mayor Frank F. Fasi appointed Anderson to the second highest office in the City and County of Honolulu, Managing Director.

During public service he kept true to his entrepreneurial spirit with Hawaii Farm and Ranch Supply in Kamuela and Anekona Hawai'ian Toys and Gifts Made in Hawai'i. Recently, Anderson acquired Michel's Restaurant at the Colony Surf.

Anderson resigned from the Republican Party because he felt that the interests of many of its members were simply too narrow to deal with Hawai'i's growing problems. He pulled out of public service for almost eight years.

Anderson, the former Chairman of the GOP, shocked Hawai'i when he decided to make a political comeback in 2002 to run for Governor as a Democrat. He would lose the nomination to Lt. Gov. Mazie Hirono.
