Info | Pat Hoy was first elected to the Ontario Legislature in 1995 for the riding of Essex-Kent. He was re-elected in 1999, defeating a Conservative incumbent in the restructured riding of Chatham-Kent Essex, and re-elected in 2003.
He is the Chair of the Standing Committee on Finance and Economic Affairs and the Southwest Caucus. He is Vice-Chair of the Cabinet Economic Affairs Committee.
Pat was named Transportation critic in 2000 and brought about positive change as a strong advocate for school bus safety, highway construction zone safety and a full package of upgrades on the treacherous stretch of Highway 401 known as "Carnage Alley."
Pat's widely-praised bill to protect children riding school buses received all-party support in 1996, 2000, and 2002, but the Harris/Eves government refused to make it law. After eight-and-a-half years of working with families, police and school bus drivers, Pat’s school bus safety bill was passed unanimously by the Ontario Legislature in December 2004 as part of the McGuinty government’s Child & Youth Safety Act.
Pat has also fought for the preservation of quality education and rural schools and for meaningful government incentives to attract doctors to under-serviced communities. Pat served as President of the Kent Federation of Agriculture, Director of the Ontario Federation of Agriculture and delegate to the Corn Producer's Association Founding Convention. The Minister of Agriculture appointed Pat to the Crop Insurance Review Committee and the Crop Insurance Commission where he served three terms.
In the community, Pat was a VON Director and Vice-Chair of the Chatham Chamber of Commerce Agricultural Committee. He is a member of the Merlin Legion, the Knights of Columbus, and an honorary member of the Ridgetown Kiwanis Club and the Roma Club of Leamington.
Pat and Debbie have two children, Ryan, and a daughter, Erin, who is married to Scott.
