Info Assemblyman Todd Spitzer was elected to State Assembly in 2002, to represent the 71st district. He currently serves as the Vice-Chair of the Assembly Health Committee, and as a member of the Public Safety, Judicial, and Waters Parks and Wildlife Committees. Assemblyman Spitzer is honored to serve as Whip on the leadership team of Assembly Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy.

In September 2004, Governor Schwarzenegger signed Assemblyman Spitzer’s landmark legislation putting Megan’s Law on the Internet. For his work on this measure, the California Sexual Assault Investigators named Spitzer their Legislator of the Year. The California State Sheriffs’ Association named Assemblyman Spitzer Outstanding Assembly Member for 2003 for his recognized expertise on the Public Safety Committee. The California Tow Truck Association named Assemblyman Spitzer as their Legislator of the year in 2003 for his pro-business acumen. Assemblyman Spitzer was also named as an Honorary Board Member to the Doris Tate Crime Victims Bureau , was appointed to serve on the Administration of Justice committee for the Orange County Bar Association and the MADD, Orange County, Advisory Board.

Prior to his election to the Assembly he served on the Orange County Board of Supervisors beginning with his election in November of 1996. He was re-elected in March of 2000 to represent the Third District.

Prior to his election to the Board of Supervisors, Assemblyman Spitzer was an elected Trustee of the Brea-Olinda Unified School District from 1992-1996. In addition, he served professionally, since 1990, as a Deputy District Attorney with the Orange County District Attorney's Office. In 1992, he received high recognition earning him the prestigious Outstanding Prosecutor Award. Prior to 1990, Assemblyman Spitzer worked as a high school English Teacher at Roosevelt High School in East Los Angeles.

In an effort to continue his commitment to the East Los Angeles community, Assemblyman Spitzer served, for a decade, as a Reserve Police Officer for the Los Angeles Police Department in the Hollenbeck Division, which is located in East Los Angeles. During that time, he volunteered more than 5,700 street hours and was instrumental in starting the Hollenbeck Division Driving Under the Influence Task Force. In 1999, Assemblyman Todd Spitzer was named Reserve Officer of the Year and Reserve Officer of the Year for the Central Bureau.

While an Orange County Supervisor, Assemblyman Spitzer also served as Chairman of the Orange County Transportation Authority, Director of the Orange County Fire Authority (Chair 1999-2000), Director of the San Joaquin Hills (Chair 1999 & 2000) and Foothill/Eastern Transportation Corridor Agencies. He also served as a Director of the Child Abuse Prevention Council, Member of the Local Redevelopment Authority, Member of the Library Advisory Board , Member of the Saint Joseph Medical Center Advisory Council and the MADD, Orange County, Advisory Board.

Assemblyman Spitzer earned his Bachelors Degree from UCLA, holds a Masters Degree in Public Policy from UC Berkeley and a Law Degree from UC Hastings. He and his wife, Jamie Morris Spitzer, live in Orange with their son, Justin.
