| Info | A longtime resident of Babylon with five generations of family living on Long Island, Blair Mathies is proud of the area in which he and his wife have been privileged to raise their three children. His roots run deep here, and he has learned firsthand both the unique opportunities and challenges we encounter at work, in school, and in our community.
Like many Long Islanders, Blair commutes on the LIRR to New York City, where he works as the Director of Regulatory Affairs (the legal and compliance “watchdog”) at Nomura Securities International, Inc., an international financial services company. Before Nomura, he served as a Deputy Director at the National Association of Securities Dealers, Inc. (NASD) protecting the investing public by “policing” securities brokers and dealers. Through these roles, he has acquired a direct understanding of the mechanics of our global economy and the importance of integrity in financial markets and in governance to our economic success.
After earning a B.A. in Economics from Duke University and an M.B.A. in accounting and finance from Emory University, Blair began his career as an Auditor with Touche Ross & Co. He received his J.D. from Touro College on Long Island and is a member of the New York State Bar. But his work experience runs much closer to home than the larger corporate environment. While studying law in the evenings, Blair managed his family’s contracting business in Lindenhurst by day, learning firsthand the challenges small business owners face everyday.
Raised with an appreciation for the unique natural setting of the South Shore, Blair Mathies is dedicated to preserving the area’s environment and the thriving communities of people who enjoy it. His children benefit from attending the public school system, and he and his wife are proud that their eldest now is attending college. Blair knows the realities -- both the advantages and obstacles -- faced by residents of Nassau and Suffolk Counties, and he is ready to work to ensure that our children, families, and neighbors get the opportunities they deserve for a good and decent life.
