InfoI am a candidate for the District 57 seat in the Georgia House of Representatives.
I am first-generation Chinese-American, born and raised in the Southern U.S.
I am 36, have lived in Atlanta since 1971, and have been a Morningside homeowner and resident for nearly 10 years.
I grew up in Atlanta and attended DeKalb County Public Schools.
I graduated from Georgia Tech (Industrial Engineering), and earned my MBA from The Wharton School.
I own and operate an architecture-engineering consulting firm that I founded in 1987.
I have a long history of public service and involvement within the community:
Always active with organizations addressing human rights, cultural awareness, community and leadership development, poverty and its effects on children, and health-related issues.
Leadership Atlanta graduate and former Board Chair of Leadership DeKalb.
Current Board Member of the Asian American Coalition; former President of the Organization of Chinese Americans, Georgia Chapter.
Served on DeKalb Convention & Visitor's Bureau's Diversity Advisory Council, and the Governor's Small Business Advisory Council.
Georgia Trend Magazine's "Forty Top Georgians Under 40" list, 1997.
Co-Founder of For the Kid in All of Us, Inc., a non-profit that organized The Toy Party 2003; generated more than $100,000 in contributions and donated 2,300 toys for six children's charities.
Member of Human Rights Campaign Atlanta Steering Committee, Georgia Equality Circle, and Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund Victory Circle.
Host Committee Chair for Joining Hearts (AID Atlanta) to provide housing for people living with AIDS.
It is now time for me to take my experience from business and community service to the next level - public service. I look forward to bringing a well-rounded perspective to the legislature as a business person and community leader - and as both the first Asian-American and as the first openly gay man elected to the Georgia Assembly. Having that body reflect the increasing diversity in the state will benefit all Georgia citizens.
Issues I will champion as your representative:
Continue to foster key principles of our state and country, like the protection of basic human rights for all citizens.
Safeguard our environment. Protect the Chattahoochee River, improve Atlanta's sewer system, control the Metro area's worsening pollution, and provide better and more accessible recycling options.
Increase access to state services for all communities. There are many cost-effective ways to help people create their own opportunities.
Strengthen Georgia schools. Champion collaboration between educators, parents, community and businesses to help prepare children to study, learn and graduate.
Increase Access to Affordable Health Insurance. Businesses and individuals need options to reduce costs and expand coverage options.
