|Info||Steve Kirby is a fourth generation South Dakotan. The traditional conservative values of hard work, personal responsibility and integrity have guided him throughout his life and are the principles he lives by. |
Mr. Kirby is co-manager of a successful business that has created hundreds of jobs in our state. Founded in 1992, the company has experienced exponential growth and has invested tens of millions of dollars in companies in South Dakota and throughout the United States. Simply put, Steve Kirby has spent much of his life working to make our state a better place to live, work and raise a family.
As a lifelong activist for conservative candidates and causes, Steve Kirby is a perfect fit for South Dakota. He is a close friend and advisor to John Thune, having served as co-finance chair for John's congressional races. Earlier this year when Thune was planning to run for Governor, John turned to Steve and asked him to serve on his exploratory and economic policy committees. Steve has also contributed to many other statewide, legislative and local Republican candidates. Steve and his family have had the privilege of volunteering at the Alpha Center, a Sioux Falls crisis pregnancy center. Steve is also a member of the NRA.
Steve Kirby was appointed Chairman of the South Dakota Building Authority in 1980 by Governor Bill Janklow. As Chairman, Steve assisted in the construction and financing of over $500 million of state projects authorized by the Legislature. From 1993 to 1995, Steve served as Lieutenant Governor following the tragic death of Governor Mickelson. During this time, he actively worked with the Governor's Office of Economic Development to create additional jobs by relocating businesses to South Dakota and growing existing businesses in the state.
Now a candidate for Governor, Steve Kirby wants to take his experience as a businessman and advocate for our state to preserve our way of life. As Governor, Steve will focus on promoting opportunity and prosperity in South Dakota. Steve believes we must create an economic environment that creates well paying jobs for the residents of this state, serving as a magnet to keep our young people in the state.
Steve also will fight to protect the livelihood of South Dakota's farmers and ranchers as he recognizes the vital role agriculture plays in our state's economy. Our seniors deserve the security to know they can retire comfortably with affordable health care. As a father and a husband, Steve realizes the families of this state need to know our schools will remain among the best in the nation and the traditional values we share will be protected. A former school board member, Steve understands the importance of preserving local schools and strengthening education in our state.
Steve seeks the office of Governor with the utmost humility, knowing that real leaders must be true servants. He will work together with the citizens of this state to take advantage of the opportunities awaiting us as we protect South Dakota's way of life.
Actively involved in his community and statewide organizations, Steve has volunteered his time for countless organizations, including the South Dakota Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the Sioux Falls Area Chamber of Commerce, the Sioux Falls Development Foundation, the Regional Airport Authority and the Junior Achievement of South Dakota. He has also served as Chairman of the local Chamber of Commerce's Tourism Task Force, as a member of the University of South Dakota Alumni Association and Foundation and the Sioux Falls Christian School Board.
