InfoBruce Hyer is an ecologist, biologist, forester, and businessperson.

He received his Master of Science in Forestry from Lakehead University in 1997.

His company, WildWaters Nature Tours & Expeditions Ltd. retails and wholesales canoes and kayaks, and has run a variety of wilderness adventures and ecotours from bases in Thunder Bay and Armstrong since 1976.

A consultant on forestry and tourism, he has been long-time advocate for small business development and economic diversification in northern Ontario.

Mr. Hyer is a board member and past president of the North of Superior Tourism Association (NOSTA). He has also served as a member of the boards of directors of NOTO (Northern Ontario Tourist Outfitters), the Armstrong Wilderness Outfitters Association, and the Wildlands League.

An active naturalist and environmental advocate, he is a past president of Environment North. He has worked for many years on various projects dedicated to the sustainability of forests and the jobs dependent upon our boreal forests.

Mr. Hyer spent many years helping to plan and develop a network of protected areas in northern Ontario, and served on the Boreal West Round Table representing tourism and ecological interests.

He served as an adjudicator on the Province of Ontario Environmental Appeal Board from 1988 to 1997.

As member of the Thunder Bay Remedial Action Plan (RAP), Mr. Hyer was the co-founder and first co-chair of the Lake Superior Binational Forum, which advised the International Joint Commission (IJC) on ways to reduce pollution and foster sustainability around Lake Superior.

He currently serves on both the Local Citizens Committee and Forest Management Planning Team for the Domtar-Armstrong Forest.
