InfoNavdeep Singh Bains is the federal Member of Parliament for Mississauga-Brampton South in Ontario. First elected federally in June 2004, he was subsequently re-elected in January 2006. In October 2005, he was appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister under the Rt. Hon. Paul Martin and sworn in as a Member of the Queen’s Privy Council for Canada.

Mr. Bains currently serves as the Official Opposition Critic for International Trade and sits on the House of Commons’ Standing Committee on International Trade. Mr. Bains is a member of the Canada-US and the Canada-India Friendship Groups. He also sits on the Caucus Committees for Planning and Priorities, Canada and the World and the Economic Prosperity Committee. In the past, Mr. Bains has sat on the House of Commons’ Standing Committee on Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics and the Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Human Rights and International Development where he served as Chairman.

Navdeep brings to Ottawa a strong social conscience and a commitment to the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. He is also dedicated to fixing health care; to building a sustainable child care system; to increased funding and services for seniors; and to helping small and medium sized businesses. Navdeep is involved in many community activities including the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, the Sunshine Walk for Dreams and the Guru Gobind Singh Children’s Foundation.

CURRICULUM VITAE

Navdeep was born in Toronto, Ontario in 1977. He completed his undergraduate degree at York University where he obtained his Bachelor of Administrative Studies. Following that, Mr. Bains went on to complete his Masters in Business Administration from the University of Windsor and obtained the designation of a Certified Management Accountant. Prior to entering political life, Mr. Bains worked in Accounting and Financial Analysis. His most recent appointment was at the Ford Motor Company where he worked as a Financial Analyst.

Before that Mr. Bains worked as an Analyst at Nike Canada. He has one brother, Harjot, who is presently completing his undergraduate university studies. His parents Balwinder and Harminder live in Brampton, ON.

Mr. Bains currently lives in Mississauga with his wife Brahamjot and their daughter Nanki.
