InfoBorn in Quebec to a francophone separatist mother and an anglophone federalist father, Julie C. Baribeau has been involved in politics since a very young age. At the age of 9, she was already spending her spare time writing plans to improve society which she would present to her teachers. She was also participating in le Perrt optimist club debates on the subjects of environmental issues. At 11, she was already writing for newspapers.

At 23 years of age, Julie has aquired much experience, knowledge and ideas concerning the issues of social justice, peace, the environment and the economy. Since the age of 16, she has been reading all up-to-date litterature on sustainable development, reading an average of 2 books per week on the subject including regular readings of Mother Jones, the Ecologist, E magazine, Harper's, Adbusters and the Economist. She has received a bachelor's degree in science of earth systems from Cornell University, a world class institution, where she specialized in communications, politics, ecology and biogeochemistry. From the age of 16, she has been working night and day for diverse social causes. She has worked for several action and education groups such as Greenpeace USA , the Rainforest Action Network, the Sierra Club of Canada, the Forest Action Network, the Western Canada Wilderness Committee, the Public Interest Research Group of Ontario and many community groups in every community she's been a part of.

As president of the Greens at Cornell, with the help of 6 other students, Julie founded "Kyoto Now!, a national movement who's goal is to convince american universities and industries to voluntarily adhere to the Kyoto Protocol to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. The movement was founded after Baribeau learned, at a United Nations conference she attended, of the United States' refusal to sign the Kyoto agreement, choosing irresponsibility when faced with the imminent problem of climatic change.

Ms Baribeau also organized to have the fast food restaurants on campus to start using biodegradable containers instead of plastic in an effort to reduce air pollution from carcinogenic gases such as furans and dioxins and show industries, government and other institutions that alternatives to waste exist.

She also successfully lobbied for all the departments in her university to use recycled paper to help protect the little remaining rainforest in the world. In the city of Ithaca, Julie also organized, with a friend, a group of citizens opposing natural gas surveys in New York State's only public national forest. Ms. Baribeau is convinced that the age of petrol is over and political solutions are needed to promote alternative energy sources and enegy conservation. Ms. Baribeau is very inspired by pioneers such as William McDonough (green architect and promoter of urban ecology.), Ray Anderson (president of Interface-a socially and ecologically responsible carpet manufacturing company) and Herman Daly (ex World Bank economist who promotes a balanced economy that does not place short-term growth above resource conservation/fair wages). She knows, based on the preceding examples and other research, that the only viable long term economy is a green economy based on the development of holistic products that take societal and environmental costs into consideration and not only arbitrary market costs which are too often influenced by megamarketing and the law of the lowest price, contributing to the exploitation of the poor. She has noted, after speaking with many people, that it is time for an alternative as the majority of the population, even the youth, grows more and more cynical, depressed, fed by carcinogens and other harmful products and are scared for the future.

Mrs. Baribeau is convinced that Canadian government, along with many other countries, need to be restructured to finally enter a new age, the age of ecology, world solidarity and peace. It is time for all conscientious citizens of the world to unite and solidify an international party that is now active in more than 100 countries working for better world trade based on a development course that prioritizes quality of life for all world citizens instead of short term profit at the cost of long term growing problems for future generations and even the present one. It is time for different governmental departments to work together instead of against each other to obtain a better country and a better management of finances which are too often being wasted at present. For example, Health Canada spends major amounts of money on equipment to treat cancer while the ministry of agriculture subsidizes carcinogenic pesticides. Clearly some holistic thinking needs to be included in our governments policies. This is why Julie Baribeau has decided to bring the choice of voting Green to her childhood home: Vaudreuil-Soulanges. It is also why she has been working for months often up to 100 hours per week or more at a low salary to organize the Green Party of Canada in Quebec and make sure that there would be competent and dedicated people to represent the Green Party in all ridings of the province. Ms Baribeau believes that only a global movement of citizens can create a globalization where quality of life is assured for all world citizens and finally bring love and hope to the hearts of the majority. More than ever, she believes that it is time to act locally and think globally. To vote Green is to vote for the future.
