InfoMaryAnn Mihychuk has served the public as an elected official in various capacities for the past 15 years, giving her the most experience of any candidate contesting this year's mayoralty by-election.

MaryAnn was first elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly for St. James in 1995. She was re-elected in 1999 and 2003 as the MLA for Minto. During her time at the Manitoba Legislature, she was privileged to serve as Minister of Industry, Trade and Mines and Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs.

Her accomplishments as a member of the government of Manitoba are many. As Minister responsible for economic development in Manitoba, she championed a vision of a competitive, technology-oriented economy that creates skilled, high-paying jobs. Her influence and support led to the emergence of the bio-medical and Internet pharmacy industries in Manitoba.

With regard to MaryAnn's efforts in promoting international trade and business development, Manitoba Business Magazine said "MaryAnn has become a spark plug on international missions where she is always remembered by those she meets. She is a buoyant and tireless promoter of her province's virtues where hard work thrives if given the chance".

As Minister responsible for relations between the province and municipalities, she also worked tirelessly to build cooperative relationships and a framework for future development between the provincial government, the City of Winnipeg and the municipalities that make up Winnipeg's capital region. As a result of this process, for the first time in twenty years, the city and adjoining rural municipalities are working together to ensure a strong and coordinated capital region.

MaryAnn served as an elected trustee of the Winnipeg School Division from 1989-1995 during which time she was appointed chair.

MaryAnn attended Luxton and Hastings Elementary Schools in Winnipeg, and Dakota Collegiate in St. Vital. She graduated from the University of Winnipeg in 1979 with a B.Sc.(Hons.) in Physical Geography. She earned a Masters degree in Geological Sciences at Brock University. She has been outspoken in encouraging young women to also seek non-traditional career opportunities in the scientific field.

MaryAnn is married to Ken Marshall and she is the proud mother of Sarah, Hannah and John. She lives on Ashburn Street in Winnipeg's West End.
