InfoRick Staly�s commitment to the metro-Orlando area has evolved from his youth spent growing up in the Winter Park area where he attended Winter Park High School and graduated from Rollins College in 1982. He has volunteered with Rotary International through the Orlando East Rotary Club where his commitment to our community was recognized by awarding him a Paul Harris Fellow � the highest award Rotary International bestows. The Governor of Kentucky awarded Rick the title of Honorary Kentucky Colonel for his support of law enforcement and the community. Rick and his wife Debbie along with their children make Orlando their home. Rick Staly attends First United Methodist Church of Orlando where he serves on the Finance Committee and is an Usher. Rick Staly also assisted in the founding of New Hope United Methodist Church. Debbie, who�s Catholic Parrish was in New York, attends Queen Mary of the Universe Shrine.

Rick Staly�s devotion to public safety has grown from his youth as a Boy Scouts of America Police Explorer through his successful 29-year career in law enforcement and private security. He has served as the Undersheriff or second-in-command of the Orange County Sheriff�s Office, where he started as a deputy sheriff in 1977. Prior to joining the Orange County Sheriff�s Office Rick served as a police officer in the communities of Oviedo and Altamonte Springs. After retiring from the Orange County Sheriff�s Office in 2001 Rick Staly served as the manager of Safety Services and was part of the opening team for the four-star resort Gaylord Palms Resort and Convention Center. This unique experience provided invaluable insight into the tourism industry and business and labor sectors of our community. He has also served as chief of security for a private community with a security staff of 30 officers and is President of the Colman-Staly Agency in Orlando.

Rick Staly has served the law enforcement community with honor and dedication. He was elected by his peers and served as president of the Central Florida Criminal Justice Council and was the founding present of the Florida Chapter Southern Police Institute Alumni Association. He was elected by the graduates of the Southern Police Institute and served two terms as their national treasurer and was awarded the Director�s Award by the Southern Police Institute for his commitment to education in law enforcement. At the time Rick Staly received this prestigious award he was only the second person to receive this honor in fifty years. He was elected by his fellow deputy sheriffs and served as the treasurer of Orange County Sheriff Lodge 93 of the Fraternal Order of Police. Rick is a second-generation law enforcement officer as his father served with the Winter Park Police Department.

Rick Staly knows what it�s like to be the victim of crime. While on-duty in 1978 Rick was shot twice while saving the life of a fellow Deputy Sheriff. For his bravery he was awarded the Medal of Valor and Purple Heart. He and his family have also been the victim of a burglary to their home and know first hand the frustration citizens feel when violated by a criminal.
