Info | Councilman Bill Spence was elected to his first term on Bridgeton City Council in 2006 and again in 2010 as part of a slate headed by Mayor Albert Kelly; serving as Council President on two separate occasions during that time. Mr. Spence was elected to his third four-year term on City Council in November of 2014 as part of the Kelly-backed slate of candidates. In his role as a member of Council, Mr. Spence serves as City Council liaison to several departments including; Police & Fire, Recreation, Public Works, and Housing Code Enforcement.
Prior to his service as a member of City Council, Mr. Spence worked in a number of professional capacities including three decades as a technician with Verizon (formerly NJ Bell and Bell Atlantic), substitute teacher within the Bridgeton Public School System, and service in the New Jersey National Guard. His tenure with Verizon/Bell Atlantic includes 10 years as a union delegate.
Over the years, Councilman Spence attended at Cumberland County College, Upsala College, and York Junior College. In addition, Councilman Spence graduated from Cumberland County VO-Tech's Culinary Arts Program as a member of the Honor Society.
Councilman Spence remains active in a number of civic roles including Bridgeton Main Street Association Board member; serving also as Chair of the Main Street Design Team Committee, Co-Chair of the Crabfest and Riverfest Committees, and Co-Chair of the Bridgeton Holiday House Tour. He also served on the Board of the Bridgeton Area Police Athletic League.
