InfoKenzie, 52, is the youngest of seven children of the late John Angus MacNeil (Gillis Point) and Anastasia Borden (Donkin) now living in Johnstown, Richmond County. Both his parents were teachers and his father was also a long time field worker with Drs. Moses Coady and Jimmy Thompkins. He completed his higher education at the University of Botswana, Lesotho and Swaziland in Southern Africa and has a Bachelor of Arts from St. F.X.

No stranger to public life, MacNeil has plenty of professional credits as a writer, performer, producer and director in Television, Film, Radio and Stage. He produced The Rise and Follies shows and composed the anthem, The Island. He served a term as Chairman of the Nova Scotia Film Development Corporation where he oversaw the development of the Halifax soundstages. He also worked as development officer with the Nova Scotia Department of Economic Development which led to the development of the Filmscape soundstage in Point Edward.

In the 1990’s he ran a small business as Editor and Publisher of The Cape Bretoner Newsmagazine, which kept him in touch with the region’s issues and with Cape Bretoners around the globe. He has also been active as a volunteer with music and film associations, benefits and projects, palliative care and health issues and social justice organizations.

He is married to Lauren Crabtree of Ottawa and East Margaree and they have four daughters, Caitriana (27) Christie (22) Mary (20) and Anna (18).
