Prouty; elected by special election January 7, 1972, to complete the unexpired term ending January 3, 1977; reelected in 1976 and again in 1982 for the term ending January 3, 1989; not a candidate for reelection in 1988; chairman, Committee on Environment and Public Works (Ninety-seventh through Ninety-ninth Congresses).
