InfoColin Moyle was a long serving Labour MP who was infamously embroiled in a controversy when Robert Muldoon accused Moyle of having been questioned by police for soliciting sex with a man (at the time, homosexuality was illegal in New Zealand). Moyle resigned his seat of Mangere, which led to the by-election that was won by David Lange. It was said that Muldoon viewed Moyle as a potential future Labour leader and acted swiftly to try and destroy his career. Ironically, Moyle's successor in Mangere would be the man who would eventually topple Muldoon.

Moyle eventually returned to parliament and served as Minister of Agriculture in the Fourth Labour Government. Moyle generally supported Rogernomics (and his portfolio was one of those most affected by its policies), but avoided being associated with it to the same extent of colleagues like Richard Prebble and David Caygill. Lange's successor as PM, Geoffrey Palmer, dropped Moyle from cabinet and Moyle decided to retire at the next election (along with several others).
