Wilkinson was an attorney in Beaufort NC for 60 years, working in the law firm of WArd and Wilkinson (later Wilkinson and Vosburgh).

Candidate for U.S. Representative from North Carolina 1st District, 1936 and 1940.

Delegate to Republican National Convention from North Carolina, 1940 to 1980.

Candidate for U.S. Senator from North Carolina, 1948.

Candidate for state senate, 1966, 1980, 1982.

Wilkinson died on 4/20/2001.
