Doug was re-elected as Prosecuting Attorney in November 2016 for a term ending on December 31, 2020. In November 2014, he was elected to serve as Prosecuting Attorney through December 2016.
Doug served as the Eaton County Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney from 2008 to June 2013, and as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney from 2000 to 2008.
From 2003 to 2013, he was in charge of the Economic Crimes Unit. During his first years in our office, he prosecuted controlled substance cases and forfeitures.
Doug previously served as a Jackson County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney (1996 to 2000), where he was the Chief Trial Attorney in the Drug and Arson Unit.
In February 2016, he received his 20-year Prosecution Service Award from PAAM.
Before beginning his career in prosecution, he worked in private practice, specializing in criminal defense and real estate law (1992 to 1995).
Doug is licensed to practice law in Michigan, Arkansas and Nevada.
PAAM: Doug is an elected member of the PAAM Board of Directors. He is chair of the Rape Kits Initiatives subcommittee, and serves on the Legislative committee, Organized Retail Fraud Task Force, and the State Drug Treatment Court Advisory committee.
Doug is a member of the Organized Retail Crime Advisory Board (2013 to 2021), re-appointed by Governor Snyder in March 2017. He was also involved in reviewing legislation that created new organized retail fraud crimes, as well as its Advisory Board.
Doug was also appointed by Secretary of State Ruth Johnson to the Fighting Auto Insurance Rip-Offs (FAIR) task force, as the Prosecuting Attorneys Association of Michigan representative.
He was appointed as a board member of the Child Abuse Prevention Council of Eaton County in September 2013.
Doug was chosen by the Senate Majority Leader and the Speaker of the House to fill the vacancy on the State Drug Treatment Court Advisory Committee in September 2013, and was re-appointed in July 2016 to serve through September 2020.

Award: In July 2016, Doug and Sr. APA Brent Morton received one of three Western Michigan University Thomas M. Cooley Law School's 31st Annual Distinguished Brief Awards. The Award recognizes the most scholarly briefs filed before the Michigan Supreme Court, as determined by a panel of appellate and trial judges. Eaton County's award honored its work on People v Ernesto Evaristo Uribe (MSCt 151899, Eaton Co Circuit Ct 13-020404-FC), a criminal sexual conduct case where appeals focused on the admissibility of "other act" testimony. The trial court ruled that this testimony was inadmissible. The Court of Appeals reversed (PDF), holding that the evidence was admissible. The Supreme Court denied full oral arguments and overturned the Court of Appeals published decision, but upheld the ruling that the testimony was admissible (PDF).
Doug is a member of the National Fire Investigators Association.
Doug's interests include his family, and snow sports.
