InfoLead Pastor, Park Hill United Methodist Church

Pastor Nathan Adams is an ordained elder of the United Methodist Church currently serving the historic Park Hill UMC in Denver, CO, a multi-racial, LGBQTIA+ affirming, inclusive, and social justice minded church that also serves the immigrant community as a Sanctuary church.

Nathan was born and raised in Canton, Ohio. From a young age, his parents taught him the importance of serving and caring for others. His mother is a lifelong licensed practical nurse. His father is a retired police officer. Their example of service led him to seek a Bachelor of Music in music education from the University of Miami in Florida. Nathan is a classically trained trombonist and marched for the Miami Band of the Hour marching band. After college, he earned a Master of Divinity from Methodist Theological School in Ohio in ministry and theology including an individual study on interfaith contexts, work, and collaborations. He was a fellow in both The Lewis Fellows and the Lewis Community Leaders Fellows through the Lewis Center for Church Leadership housed at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington D.C.

Nathan was greatly shaped and nurtured as a young man by urban churches and their people that cared for him and the larger community. He has previously served and led churches in Columbus, Ohio, Tallahassee, FL, and North Miami Beach, FL. Throughout his career, he has helped local congregations connect with their surrounding communities as they strive to serve and connect with all people while being a light of hope for their neighborhoods.

Nathan feels it is an honor to serve and lead the people of Park Hill United Methodist Church. In his time as Lead Pastor, the church has strengthened its commitment to serve all people. It has established a literacy and mentoring program at Hallett Academy with other community partners. With its partners at the Jewish synagogue housed in its building, the church has welcomed two guests in jeopardy of being deported from the United States into its building as they sought Sanctuary. The relationship with this synagogue has grown as together the two congregations regularly host interfaith services as well as remain committed to providing together overnight shelter for twenty-six nights a year for women who are experiencing homelessness. Park Hill UMC is also an active and steady presence of service and inclusion at regular community events such as Denver Pride, Juneteenth, and the MLK Marade. Nathan knows he hasn’t done this work by himself. He is grateful to lead and serve with a diverse, dedicated, and selfless group of staff and members that make all of this a reality each day.

As a bi-racial man who was mentored and cared for by many people in his community, Nathan knows the importance of serving and helping others. As such, he has served and serves as an active part both personally and professionally of every community he has lived. Nathan has served as a mentor as part of Big Brothers and Big Sisters, Leon County School, and currently in Denver Public Schools. Nathan has served on various local community boards including the Center for African American Health and the East Colfax Community Collective here in Denver. He has been a music instructor, YMCA teacher, and a track and field coach for the Police Athletic League. Professionally, he has served and serves in various United Methodist boards including UMC LEAD. He especially enjoyed mentoring new clergy as the district mentor during his time in South Florida. He takes pride in his current work with the Center for Health and Hope as it serves people here in Denver, Kenya, and around the world.

While at the University of Miami, Nathan met his wife of nearly thirteen years, Alicia. They live in the East Colfax neighborhood with their two dogs and cat. Nathan is an avid marathoner, loves sports and enjoys spending time with his wife and their pets exploring good places to eat, shop, and play all over the beautiful state of Colorado.
