Ambassador Gail Schoettler has had a varied and successful career in politics, diplomacy and business. She has been a United States Ambassador, Colorado's Lt. Governor and State Treasurer, an entrepreneur, a professional speaker, a newspaper columnist, and a corporate board member. She has met with heads of state and traveled to over 50 countries, talking to and negotiating with political and business leaders.
Dr. Schoettler's extensive experience in international business and politics underlie her knowledge of the economics and politics of globalization, successful political strategies for businesses, and issues of importance to women. Corporations seek her advice on managing the politics of globalization, regulation, and government relations.
President Clinton appointed Dr. Schoettler United States Ambassador to the 2000 World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC) held in Istanbul. She led a delegation of 162 U.S. telecommunications experts in a very successful treaty negotiation with 189 countries on the allocation of radio spectrum for commercial and government uses.
Dr. Schoettler's WRC success led to her appointment heading the U.S. Defense Department's Presidential transition for global intelligence, security, communications and information technology. Since then, Dr. Schoettler has spent much of her time speaking to groups around the world and advising corporations on successful political strategies.

across the entire state of Colorado.
Dr. Schoettler served as Colorado's Lt. Governor from 1995 to 1999. In 1997, she co-chaired the successful G-8 Summit of world leaders held in Denver, Colorado. She negotiated solutions to some of Colorado's toughest environmental problems and led a highly successful educational reform. From 1987 to 1995, Dr. Schoettler served two terms as Colorado State Treasurer and as a trustee of the Public Employees Retirement Association (PERA), the state's $24 billion pension fund. She was elected to two terms on the Douglas County Board of Education, serving four years as president, and was a trustee of the University of Northern Colorado.
Dr. Schoettler has also been a successful businesswoman. She was a founder, board member and board chair of two banks. She continues to help run the California cattle ranch where she was raised and to manage several real estate partnerships. She is a director of three corporations, AspenBio, Inc., CancerVax Corporation and Fischer Imaging Corporation and serves as chair of the corporate development committees of CancerVax and Fischer Imaging.
Among her many awards are the French Legion of Honor, France's highest civilian award, presented to her by French President Jacques Chirac.
Gail Schoettler is married to Dr. Donald Stevens, Managing Director of the Institute for International Business at the University of Colorado at Denver. Together they have five children and live in Parker, Colorado.
She holds a B.A. degree with honors in Economics from Stanford University and M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in History from the University of California at Santa Barbara.
