Info | Roswell H. Laverty owned the Atlas Drug Store on Welton Street. In 1942, Laverty was chosen president of the City Council. However, his career quickly went downhill when Laverty was convicted of purchasing stolen postage stamps and sentenced to one to three years in prison. The City Council asked Laverty to resign. He refused and the City Council passed a resolution to hold a trial to expel him. Laverty filed a lawsuit to restrain the council. On January 1, 1943, the Colorado Supreme Court ruled that the council could try Laverty and expel him from the council. Laverty resigned his council seat on eve of the trial in February 1943.
