Friedrich Ebert was arrested 1933 because of anti-fascist activity. After eight months in different concentration camps he stood until 1945 under polizeiaufsicht. From 1948 to 1967 he functioned as a mayor of east Berlin. Afterwards he held different high political functions in the GDR.
