| Info | David Rosado was born in Morovis, Puerto Rico in 1942. He came to New York City with his parents and ten brothers and sisters. David attended New York's Public Schools and graduated from Metropolitan High School and Mercy College. David also graduated from the Rutgers University Alcohol and Substance Abuse Certificate Program. David is married to Maria Rosado, they have two daughters; Donna Lynn and Damaris.
In 1973, David worked as a Job Counselor for Hunts Point Community Corporation and was later promoted to Housing Specialist where he organized Block Associations, Tenant Organizations, and assisted tenants in Housing court. A year later, due to his hard work and dedication, David was named Program Director. In 1977, David was Education and Health Coordinator for Hunts Point Multi-Service in conjunction with School District #7. In 1979, David became the Administrator of the South Bronx Mental Health Council's Alcoholism Unit. From 1982 through 1986, David tirelessly worked as the Youth Coordinator at Community Planning Board #1 for the New York City Youth Bureau. In 1988 he returned to housing as Manager of Organizaciones Unidas del Bronx (OUB), Minz Plaza Houses. Additionally, during David's life of community service, he has been a member of Area Policy Boards 1 and 2, Community Planning Boards 1 and 2, and the Community Advisory Board at Lincoln Hospital.
David Rosado has a long and active record of service in community affairs and advocacy for women's issues. He has Chaired the Education Committee in Planning Board #1 and the Morrisania Neighborhood Family Care Center. Notably, while at Hunts Point Multi-Service Center, David led the fight to re-open and rehabilitate the Douglas Leon Senior Citizens Center, thereby establishing housing for many senior citizens.
David Rosado was first elected in 1983, to the position of District Leader of the 74th Assembly District; a position he has consistently been re- elected to for the past 13 years, and is the most senior District Leader in Bronx County. He was also elected to participate at the Democratic National Conventions held in San Francisco and Chicago.
On May 1, 1990, David Rosado was elected to the New York State Assembly in a Special Election called by Governor Mario M. Cuomo. He was re-elected to the Assembly in the next two succeeding elections. While serving in the Assembly, David was a member of the Higher Education, Housing, Mental Health, and Real Property Taxation Standing Committees; the Puerto Rican/Hispanic Task Force, and the Black and Puerto Rican Caucus. David was instrumental in the State's Redistricting of Senate and Assembly Districts, enabling minority communities greater representation.
In the General Election of November 2, 1993, David Rosado was elected to the New York City Council from the 17th Councilmanic District in Bronx County. David was a member of the Civil Service and Labor, Housing and Building, and Youth Services Committees; he also chaired the Juvenile Justice Task Force of the New York City Council. During David's service on the Council he gained a reputation as a staunch fighter for his community. He fought for, and won, the upgrading of fire alarm pull boxes in the 17th District. He has worked to improve the areas parks and playgrounds, bringing more than $8 million for rehabilitation and reconstruction of parks in just two years. He was also the leader in the fight to save the Farberware manufacturing jobs, increased economic development, and to secure more jobs for The Bronx.
On November 5, 1996 David was elected to the New York State Senate representing the 32nd District in Bronx County by an overwhelming margin.
