| Info | Commissioner Printz and his wife, Barbara, made Sumter County, Florida their permanent home in December 2011. Steve was born on a small farm in western, Maryland. Married almost 48 years, he and Barbara have 4 adult children and 7 grandchildren. As a Commissioner, Steve will focus on the continuing vision of achieving quality growth while maintaining the rural nature of Sumter County along with providing quality and affordable services required to support and serve our growing population.
Military Experience
Commissioner Printz served 22 years in the United States Navy, Supply Corps, retiring as a Captain in 1990. He enlisted in the Naval Reserves at the age of 17. His first tour of active duty, upon his commissioning and completion of his initial training, was on a destroyer, USS William C. Lawe DD 763 home-ported in Mayport, Florida. He eventually served on two additional ships, USS Concord, AFS-5 and USS San Diego, AFS 6 both home-ported in Norfolk, VA as well as additional duty stations across the continental United States and Hawaii.
Public Service
Commissioner Printz served as a Supervisor of the Villages Community Development District (VCCD) 9 from 2012-2016. Additionally, he was a member of the Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) Lake-Sumter Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) from 2015-2016. He also serves as a board member of Combat Veterans to Careers, a non-profit that focuses on helping veterans and their families transition to civilian life.
