InfoI, HUGH E. BASSETTE, hereby declare that I am a candidate for an elective office in the City of Oakland, and make the following statement, to-wit:
That my name is Hugh E. Bassette.
The office for which I am a candidate is Mayor.
My occupation for the past five years has been: High School Teacher.
I have held the following public office: None.

Statement of general qualifications: The major question concerning my candidacy has to be "Why is he running? What he says is right but he doesn't have the money or the votes to win." Oakland's Mayor needs to be a person who is willing to make Oakland the first priority in his decisions regardless of the political consequences. I have a sincere and committed love for this city and I have sat and listened at City Council meetings for twenty years watching Oakland slowly slip down the drain. I'm not a politician. I am a citizen just like you who has watched the same things that you have watched. Rather than to make the decisions needed to save Oakland, our politicians have increased their salaries, named buildings after themselves and demonstrated a lack of the required leadership needed to improve our city. It requires plain old common sense and the courage and ability to make and carry out programs and policies which will rescue Oakland.
The signatures of not more than twenty nor less than ten residents of the City of Oakland sponsoring my candidacy are as follows: John Williams
David Glover
Chandra Cooper
Velmatur Hendon
Carolyn Harvey
Harold Harvey Sr.
Eldora Hall
Carol Bedini
Frank Dixon
Shirley Foster
