InfoAmber is non-binary and uses they/them/their pronouns. *Why are pronouns important?

Amber Hott grew up all over the United States as a child of a military family. Amber’s dad is retired from the Army and their step-dad is a retired Marine Veteran. Colorado has been their home for the last 22 years.
Amber spent 10 years as a stay at home mom beginning at the age of 15 years old before finding themselves single and struggling, working physically demanding blue-collar jobs that did not offer health insurance or pay enough to eat regularly. Amber remarried in 2012 to Bill Selznick.

Amber started attending Red Rocks Community College where they worked in the LGBT resource center, was a member of student government, was co-founder and President of the Southern Poverty Law Center Club on campus, and joined the National Honor Society of Leadership and Success. They graduated from RRCC with their Associate’s degree in 2018.

Amber has volunteered for many organizations in our community starting at 14 years old, beginning at the nursery at their local church. Organizations they have volunteered for include: The Action Center in Jefferson County, Adams County Animal Shelter, Habitat for Humanity, Project Angel Heart, The African Community Center, and Denver Rescue Mission.

In 2018 Amber worked for The Committee to Elect Tracy Kraft-Tharp as a field organizer and in 2019 they worked as a legislative intern for Senator Rachel Zenzinger.

Amber is the mother of three teenagers and can be found hiking, reading, and finding more ways to make their home environmentally friendly in their free time. Amber is passionate about social justice, our environment, education, and the welfare of children. Amber is currently completing their Bachelor’s in Psychology at Regis University. Amber believes that if we give children greater access to mental healthcare, they will grow up to be happier and healthier adults.

Amber was married by the time they were 17, and by just 26 they were a homeless mother of three. When we talk about homelessness it is easy to think we are talking about men on corners fighting their addictions and demons, but the reality is also homeless families; moms and children and no place to go, people who can’t work without a place for their kids, or get a place without work. Even little things like full day kindergarten can change the world for a family trying to get by.

As a mom of Jeffco school students and talking to other parents and teachers in district 29, Amber knows what a high priority education is in our district. They are also a sexual assault survivor and have experienced our health care system as a patient with and without health insurance. Because of this, they understand some of the hardest decisions people in our community have to make.
Join Amber in the actions we can take together, that will widen the circle of opportunity, and make District 29 and Colorado even stronger for everyday people just like us.
