=====================================

Robert K. Coughlin was born on April 22, 1969. He was taken home from the hospital by his parents Paul and Mary and his five older brothers, Paul, Michael, Kevin, John and Jim. He and all of his brothers attended the Dedham Public School System. Their home was on Taylor Avenue which was the site of many games of street hockey, stickball and kickball.

Bob's love of serving came at an early age. When he was only five years old he loved to follow his father's campaign for Selectman. Paul P. Coughlin was elected to two terms on the Board of Selectmen and Bob knew that some day he would also enjoy serving the people of his town. Bob's father Paul passed away on April 23, 1999 and Bob vowed to his father that Public Service would always be a part of his life. After studying his way through the Dedham Public Schools, Bob decided to follow in many of his brothers' footsteps and attend the Massachusetts Maritime Academy. While gaining his engineering degree Bob became extremely active in student government. While not on the Rugby field, Bob was representing his fellow cadets as the Student Member of the Board of Trustees. In a further leadership role that served youths all across the state, he was chosen from a field of 180,000 students to be a member of the Board of Regents of Higher Education. Bob graduated from the Academy in 1991 with a degree in Marine Engineering and was commissioned as an officer in the United States Naval Reserve.

After earning his degree, Bob decided to give back to his community. He felt that he wouldn't have been able to accomplish all that he had in college if it weren't for the quality education that he received from the Dedham Public Schools. Bob decided to run for a seat on the School Committee. At age 20, he was the youngest resident ever elected to that position. As a three-year member of the Committee he actively participated in the decision-making process which impacts important educational issues facing our community.

In 1995 Bob was elected to serve on the Board of Selectman. Again, he is the youngest person elected to that position. Over the past three years Bob has brought energy and ideas to the governing of Dedham. He is not shackled by special interest groups or particular neighborhoods. He has brought a great deal of enthusiasm to every aspect of the job of Selectman and has made many important votes that affect the town. Bob was re-elected to the Board in 1998 and served as Vice Chairman and Chairman.

In the world of Business Bob was the President and co-founder of SportsAttire Incorporated, a technology company that supports the sports apparel industry. SportsAttire's technology enables the distributors of these products to sell their apparel through the Internet, Interactive Television and at Events. Currently, he is a Principal of a Capital Management firm and donates his time as a trustee at Deaconess Glover Hospital and Massachusetts Maritime Academy.

As you can see, Bob was born and raised in Dedham. He has lived in the town his entire life. He, his wife Christine (Norton), their daughter MaryKate and their son Paul own a home on Adams Street in the Oakdale section of town. His membership on numerous committees and in various organizations exemplifies his commitment to the town where much of his life has been focused. The job of Selectman is more than just a job to him. It's part of an on-going desire to serve his hometown.

Last year, Bob decided to run for State Representative in Dedham, Westwood and Walpole. He is running because our communities need a change. Over the years, there have been many missed opportunities and misplaced priorities by our current leadership. Bob believes that we need a State Representative that is one of us. We need a leader that will work tirelessly on our behalf at the State House. We need a leader that will listen to the voices of our communities, a leader that will make our towns a number one priority, and a leader who will hold district office hours. We need a leader who will attend our local community meetings and who will be a strong voice for working families. We need a leader who will be accountable to the voters in Dedham, Westwood and Walpole. We need a State Representative that is one of us.

As a local elected official, Bob has been talking with residents for years about their issues and concerns. Throughout his career, both politically and professionally, he has supported and represented issues important to our towns and to our working men and women and their families. These issues include public education, health care, local aid and the economy.

If Bob is elected State Representative, he will make sure that Dedham, Westwood and Walpole have an effective, accessible voice on issues such as the education of our children, delivering resources to our communities, and protecting our working families.
