Currently, Akin is in the final stages of earning his doctoral degree in Urban and Regional Studies at Florida State University (FSU). In 1988, he earned his Master of Architecture from Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University (FAMU). Prior to attending graduate school at FAMU, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Architecture & Housing Development from the University of Minnesota, and a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Design from the University of Lagos.
Career Background
Prior to becoming the Property Appraiser, Akin ran a successful, regional architecture firm for over 20 years with offices in Atlanta, Jacksonville and Tallahassee. He also served as Leon County Commissioner for four years (2008-2012). During his time as commissioner, he served as Chairman from 2011 to 2012 and led on a platform of economic viability, open and accountable government and environmental sustainability. Before running for office, he tirelessly served non-profit organizations, the business community, Leon County students, veterans and those with a commitment to the environment.
