Info | Irene Josey was elected Larimer County Treasurer in 2014, after serving as the appointed Chief Deputy Treasurer since 1988. She began her career in the Treasurer's Office in 1986 - gathering the knowledge and practical experience to assume leadership of the Office 28 years later. Irene has developed a strong knowledge of relevant Colorado State Statutes and knows how to apply the law to the safe investment of public funds, and to the effective management of the county Treasury. Irene’s focus is on applying best practices in tax collection, public funds investing, and excellent customer service.
During her tenure as Treasurer, Irene has ushered in a new tax collection system that was developed and built specifically for her office by the county’s Information Technology staff, and recently reconfigured the office entrance lobby and public visitation area. The new tax collection system has proven to be accurate, efficient, and reliable and has improved service to Larimer County taxpayers. The new lobby is bright and spacious, providing faster and more effective service to customers; and displays a fascinating array of historical photographs and memorabilia from Larimer County’s history, including a long absent safe, recently returned to the Treasurer’s Office.
Under Irene’s leadership, the Office consistently operates within budget, always returning unspent funds to be re-allocated to other county government needs. To better serve the public, voice mail will not answer telephone calls to the office during work hours - instead, staff members respond to all telephone inquiries when we are open. The office has a small staff of 13 people - one less than in 1986 when Irene started there - who work diligently for taxpayers and customers of the county.
Irene believes that her greatest responsibilities as Treasurer are being trustworthy and reliable, accurate and fair, and transparent and available. More than anything, Treasurer Irene Josey believes it is a true honor to serve the citizens of Larimer County.
Irene enjoys living in Windsor with her husband Andy of 27 years. They have two adult children and four energetic grandchildren.
