Info | James A. Wilkerson IV is a triple board-certified Forensic Pathologist, which is a medical doctor specializing in clinical, anatomic, and Forensic Pathology. Dr. Wilkerson has served as the Larimer County Elected Coroner since 2014. He also serves as the Larimer County and regional Medical Examiner.
Dr. Wilkerson trained on a U.S. Army scholarship to the University of Alabama in Birmingham and subsequently completed advanced training at Brooke Army Medical Center and at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology in Washington, D.C. He served a total of 11 years in the United States Army.
Dr. Wilkerson served as Vice Chief of Staff and Chief of Staff for 5 years at Mercy Medical Center in Merced California where he was in a leadership position in a general Pathology practice for 10 years. He was also chair of the ethics committee and president of Merced/Mariposa County Medical Society in Merced.
He has been actively practicing pathology for 25 years and has completed thousands of forensic autopsies and hundreds of scene investigations. He has also testified in numerous court cases.
Dr. Wilkerson has been married to his wife, Kimberly, for 33 years and they have raised 3 children. He has 2 grandchildren. His youngest child currently serves in the United States Navy as a Nuclear Engineer aboard a submarine.
Dr. Wilkerson manages and operates the Larimer County Coroner/ Medical Examiner’s Office which has 8 investigators and a full-time secretary. The office investigates all deaths in Larimer County and performs approximately 260 forensic autopsies per year.
