Info | Herman B. Lord was born on a farm near Conesville, Iowa, August 21, 1893. He attended rural schools and graduated from Browns Business College, Muscatine, Iowa. He married Gertrude Klotz in 1917. She died in 1974.
Mr. Lord served during the Mexican uprising and also served as a noncommissioned officer in World War I. He was elected mayor of Muscatine and served two terms from 1932 to 1936.
He was a member of the First Methodist Church, American Legion, Knights of Pythias and Elks. He was a 50-year member and past master of Iowa Lodge 2. He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Josephine Bohling, and a brother, Andrew.
Senator Lord served as a member of the Senate from 1947-1955. During that time he was responsible for the development of the Iowa Public Employees Retirement System and the right to work law.
