InfoMark Chapin was elected Eagle County Assessor in November 2006, re-elected in 2010, 2014, and 2018. Beginning in 1991, he worked as the Deputy Assessor, Chief Appraiser and Commercial Appraiser in the Eagle County Assessor's Office. In 2004, Mark opened a private appraisal business in Eagle and spent several successful years operating the business before being elected. Prior to working in Eagle, Mark worked 15 years for the La Plata County Assessor in Durango, Colorado.

Mark is a licensed Certified General Appraiser, the highest level of appraisal license in Colorado. During his 42 year appraisal and assessment career he has completed appraisal and assessment course work through the Appraisal Institute, International Association of Assessing Officers and the American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers among others. He is also a graduate of the CU Denver Rocky Mountain Leadership Program.

Mark is a member of the Colorado Assessors Association (CAA), Colorado Association of Tax Appraisers (CATA), International Association of Assessing Officers (IAAO) and The Appraisal Institute and continues to serve his gubernatorial appointments to the Statutory Advisory Committee to the Property Tax Administrator and is a past member of the Board of Real Estate Appraisers. Mark also serves on the Colorado Assessors Association's Legislative Committee and the Ski and Recreational Committee. By being active in Colorado assessment legislation, Mark assures that all property is fairly and accurately valued in Colorado and that appraisal professionals are held to the highest standards possible.

Mark is committed to continued public education regarding property valuation and is in support of updating property valuation law in Colorado to make assessment value as current as possible. This type of change would help property owners a great deal, as many owners have knowledge of the current market within their area. His office is committed to going paperless with an ongoing electronic-only program. Mark has established an open door policy which has led to better public understanding of assessment practices and property rights.

Mark grew up in Durango Colorado and enjoys everything Colorado has to offer. An avid bicyclist, mountain climber/hiker and whitewater enthusiast, he spends as much time as possible outside. Mark resides in Eagle with his partner Susie on a small ranch. They share three grown children.
