|Info||Glen B. Gainer III of Wood County, West Virginia was born February 26, 1960 to Glen B. Gainer, Jr. and Sally J. Gainer. He was educated in Wood County public schools, graduating from Parkersburg High School in 1978. He earned a bachelor's degree in political science at the University of Charleston and attended the Washington Center for Learning Alternatives in 1981, serving as intern on the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. |
Auditor Gainer served in the West Virginia State Treasurer's Office from 1985 through 1989, was West Virginia Department of Energy budget director from 1989 through 1991, and was national accounts representative of John Deere & Company from October, 1991 through December, 1992. He is married to the former Susan A. Ryder and has two children, John David II and Joshua Daniel. He is a member of several civic and fraternal organizations.
Auditor Gainer was elected as West Virginia's 19th State Auditor in November of 1992. The Auditor, the State's official bookkeeper, audits all claims presented to the State for payment and, if found legal and correct, issues warrants therefore drawn on the Treasury. He accepts garnishments against State employees and administers the U.S. Savings Bonds Program. He administers social security for employees of State and political subdivisions. He receives taxes due the State collected by sheriffs, and collects and distributes public utility taxes for the State and counties. As Securities Commissioner, ex officio, he approves, rejects, issues licenses for, and supervises the sale of securities in West Virginia. As Commissioner of Delinquent and Nonentered Lands, ex officio, he keeps records of land forfeited to State, sold for delinquent taxes, and redeemed. Auditor Gainer is a member of the Board of Public Works, Board of School Fund, Armory Board and Board of Trustees, State Board of Investments, State Municipal Bond Commission, Land Sales and Condominiums, and is Vice-Chairman of the Public Employees Retirement System. Auditor Gainer also serves as Southeastern States Director, Treasurer of the Board of Directors, and Chairman of the 2002 Committee of the National White Collar Crime Center.
