Info | Rob Astorino is a New York on-air personality, media executive, and political figure. He has been the station manager/program director of the highly successful Catholic Channel on Sirius Satellite Radio since it launched in December, 2006. He hosts a weekly show with Cardinal Egan, the Archbishop of New York, and travels around the United States and Canada interviewing high ranking prelates for the station. He was recently invited to Rome by Archbishop Claudio Celli, President of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications, to address an international gathering of Catholic radio executives, and had the honor of being received by Pope Benedict XVI at the Vatican.
Prior to The Catholic Channel, Astorino was hired in 2001 by Disney to help launch 1050 ESPN Radio in New York City, where he held the position of Executive Producer and served as an on-air personality on the all sports talk radio station.
Politically, Astorino was elected to his town's school board at the age of 21, and at the time was thought to be the youngest elected school board member in state history. He went on to become a 3-term town councilman and Westchester County Legislator. In 2005, he ran a surprisingly strong and close race against an incumbent for Westchester County Executive. He was reportedly on the short list for New York's Lieutenant Governor in 2006, and has been mentioned as a possible congressional or state senate candidate, and has not ruled out another run for county executive.
His strong speaking skills and sense of humor have made him a favorite on the political, charitable, and religious circuits. He is a commentator and political analyst on Cablevision's News 12, and has been interviewed by major news organizations such as The New York Times, USA Today, CBS, NBC, ABC, and CTS in Canada.
Astorino, 41, is a graduate of Fordham University. He is married with two young children and is a lector and an extraordinary minister of the Eucharist at his local parish.
