InfoDr. Tarter has worked and raised his family in Central Illinois over the last 24 years. He served on the Board of Governors of the Carle Clinic Association and on the Board of Directors of Health Alliance Medical Plans. He served on the faculty of the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, and he now works for Cancer Care Specialists of Illinois. He has published numerous articles in medical journals, and he has won several research and teaching awards. He was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, an honor reserved for 2% of American doctors. Dr. Tarter and his family live in Springfield Illinois.

Dr. Tarter was born July 6. 1952 in Portland, Oregon. He attended Portland public schools, and then graduated from Linfield College with honors in Biology. He earned a Ph.D. in Anatomy from the Oregon Health Sciences University in 1983. His graduate studies were supported by a National Research Service Award from the Public Health Service. Dr. Tarter worked as a Fellow-in-Residence at the prestigious Rockefeller University in New York City. Dr. Tarter earned an M.D. degree from Albany Medical College in 1990, and he completed residency training in Urology at the University of Southern California in 1996.

Dr. and Mrs. Tarter have been active supporters of the Sangamon County Republican Party and of local and state-wide Republican candidates. Mrs. Tarter is a Precinct Committeeman. The Tarters have 3 sons, twins Andrei and Nikolai age 21, and Sergei age 20. Sergei Tarter was sworn-in as a Precinct Committeeman this year.
