|Info||Richard R. Zitola was born in Olongapo City, Phillipines. At two months old, he immigrated to the United States along with his mother. They settled in Yarmouth, MA, the hometown of his father, a serviceman in the United States Navy at Subic Bay. |
Rich grew up on Cape Cod with his large Italian family and graduated from Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School. He attended the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, CA, where he studied geology and engineering. While there, he worked with others doing earthquake research through the United States Geological Survey. He also worked for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (NASA/JPL), where he designed and built the mock-up for the Pluto Fast-Flyby mission. In 1993, he built the winning machine for the annual Mechanical Engineering Design contest. He graduated in 1995 with a bachelor's degree in Engineering and Applied Science. After following the job market to Silicon Valley in California, through the rise and fall of the dot-com industry, he settled back in Massachusetts.
Rich is an independent business owner here in Massachusetts, having founded a technical consulting company in 1998. He has also recently worked as a research assistant in hydrometeorology at Harvard University, looking for evidence of global warming. He is a member of the Nashua-River Green-Rainbow and currently serves as a Worcester County delegate on the State Committee of the Green-Rainbow Party of Massachusetts. Rich is a co-founder of MassIRV, a non-partisan organization promoting election reform in this state.
Rich lives in Clinton, MA with his wife, Samantha.
