Born in Concord, N.H., 7/15/1825; parents were Aaron & Nancy (Badget) Abbott.

Education: graduated from Phillips Academy, Andover, Mass., 1846; studied law with firm L.D. Stevens, David Cross, and Asa Fowler. Admitted to the bar in 1852

Delegate to the 1852 Whig State Convention in NH and served as chairman of the Resolutions Committee

Joined the Native American Party. Owner and editor of the Daily American, in Manchester, N.H. 1852-1857; served on the NH Governor's Council. Editor of the Boston (MA) Atlas and Bee, 1859-61

Adjutant general of New Hampshire 1855-1861; member of the commission to adjust the boundary between New Hampshire and Canada

Served in the Union Army during the Civil War 1861-1865: Lt. Col., 7th Regiment, NH Volunteers 1861. Breveted as brigadier general; moved to Wilmington, N.C. and was for a time commandant of the city; delegate to the State constitutional convention in 1868.

Died in Wilmington, New Hanover County, N.C. on October 8, 1881; originally interred in the U.S. National Cemetery, Wilmington, N.C.; reinterred in Valley Cemetery, Manchester, N.H., in 1887.
