Ghediri began his military career in 1973, receiving military training in the Soviet Union, graduating first of his class at the Naval Academy of St. Petersburg then picking up a Naval Engineering degree from the Moscow Military Academy. Serving in the Algerian Navy until 1983, Ghediri was promoted to major-général in the Defense Ministry (Ministère de la Défense nationale) in 2004, taking a position as its human resources director, which he held for 10 years until his retirement.
Ghediri has become an outspoken critic of the Bouteflika regime and the direction of Algeria's military corps.
