I have served 10 years in public office. Six of these years were spent on the Denver Board of Education, and I am completing my fourth year as a member of the Denver Election Commission. Serving in these two positions has enabled me to work on what for me are rock solid basic community issues. One is the need for everyone to be able to read and have the education to express his or her talents. Another basic is for people to vote.
I ran for both Board of Education and Election Commissioner in city-wide elections. My professional field is non-profit management, and I have held full-time jobs while serving in each of these elected positions. For several years I was the Executive Director of the Temple Events Center Uptown, a venue that was built 100 years ago as the Temple Emanuel Synagogue. At the time I was hired, the facility was dormant, but it became an extremely active events center, booked months in advance. During my time at the Center, we began extensive restoration, including the provision of handicapped accessibility. I feel positively affirmed by the results of the time I spent there, given the growth of the facility. Under new management, the Center is now booked far in advance, and continues to garner substantial grant funding and to be improved physically.

I continue to be involved in non-profit management. Most recently my endeavors have been in the field of health care. To facilitate this area of work, I earned a certificate in gerontology from the School of Social Work at the University of Denver. Thus, in the last few years I have learned about a range of people, from the very young through the very old.

Nonetheless, one thing I knew even before any of these personal, professional or political ventures is the value of the democratic system and the need to maintain the integrity of the electoral process. I believe that all citizens who are 18 years old or older should become informed and vote. My work as an Election Commissioner has enabled me to put my beliefs into action.
