InfoRebecca Leser is a 2009 graduate of North Carolina State University with a Bachelor’s degree in communication and minor in Spanish, graduating Magna Cum Laude in 3.5 years.

After graduation, Rebecca spent 8 years working in financial aid offices for several local for-profit and private colleges, processing FAFSAs, scheduling student aid, meeting with students, and coordinating the annual activities of the office, most recently as a Senior Financial Aid Coordinator. Four of those years were spent working in the for-profit college industry, which impressed upon her the moral obligation for college affordability, increased transparency, and accountability for institutions in this sector. In the private sector, Rebecca advocated for her students to borrow the least amount of student loan debt possible and coordinated the awarding of over a quarter million dollars in scholarships annually for nursing students.

In March 2018, Rebecca transitioned to York County government as the Grants Coordinator. In this role, Rebecca assists County departments with the filing of grant applications, tracking expenditures, reconciliation of awards, requests for reimbursements, and work on the annual audit. Rebecca is particularly proud of the County’s match support for its grant programs and has seen firsthand how the Head Start grant program has benefitted low-income families in the community by giving kids a ‘head start’ with their education and how community development block grant funds have helped revitalize deserving communities in need of support.

Rebecca’s career positions have fostered an attitude of service, and her concern for the direction of her community and the state of Virginia have promoted a passion of advocacy. Last fall, Rebecca joined Peninsula Indivisible and began her political advocacy and support of candidates by assisting campaigns with canvassing, phone banking for candidates, and writing postcards. She also joined the York-Poquoson Democratic Committee and began serving as the 1st Vice Chair. In June 2018, Rebecca became Chair and helped lead her committee through the remainder of the 2018 election cycle and contributed in the Democratic wins for the 2nd Congressional district. As Chair, Rebecca facilitates monthly meetings, oversees the Committee’s social media presence on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, maintains the Committee website, coordinates speakers, and leads monthly executive board meetings with the officers.

Rebecca’s campaign is about the people of the 96th district. She has pledged to not accept campaign donations from the fossil fuel industry. Her campaign will be driven by grassroots supporters who believe in her message and want to move the district forward.

Rebecca is looking to continue her service as Delegate for the 96th district and bring accountability and transparency to the district and promises to advocate for the constituents, be available, and hold regular town halls. With your help, we can send Rebecca to Richmond.
