Info | Menton graduated from Spring Hill College in 1942 and then served as the school's baseball coach. He also coached at UMS High School (which is now UMS-Wright). Menton's love of baseball served him well as the voice of the Mobile Bears during the mid 40's when Chuck Connors, better known as TV's "The Rifleman," was a member of the team.
After baseball, Menton started a career in law enforcement. Menton served as a Juvenile Probation Officer for the Mobile County Sheriff's Office and then Bayou La Batre's Police Chief in the late 70's.
Menton went to Montgomery in the 1980's where he served as a State Senator during George Wallace's 4th term as Governor.
After leaving the State Capitol, Menton continued his political career as Mobile County Commissioner.
"Mobile County has lost one of our greatest Commissioners," said current County Commissioner Steve Nodine. "Commissioner Menton was a greay family man, great leader and a inspiiration to those of us who serve the public."
Menton was inducted into Spring Hill’s Badger Hall Of Fame in 1979 and the Mobile Sports Hall Of Fame in 1994.
Menton is survived by his wife of 65 years and 8 children.
