InfoTodd Gloria, the current mayor, was elected on two promises: he would solve the homeless problem and; bring down the cost of government.

During his three years in office the homeless population has grown by 10% and the cost of government has increased by one billion dollars.

His developer friends keep building low income housing and the price of real estate in San Diego continues to rise as does the homeless.

The solution to housing the homeless, reducing rents and making San Diego home ownership affordable is to remove the sale of land from the cost of housing.

Approximately 25% of the price of every real estate sale in San Diego is the land cost.

Today the price of housing is spiraling out of control because City Hall is owned by the developers. The solution to bringing down housing costs is a Mayor who will not sell City owned land.

As your Mayor I will work with the City Council to require all developers who need zoning variances to sell their land to the City. The City will lease back the land for the sales price of the land and amortize the cost over 60 years. At the end of the sixty years the project land reverts back to the City.

It is poor public policy to sell City owned land. Today, the most successful and financially sound government entity in San Diego County is the San Diego Unified Port District. It is totally self sufficient without charging taxes. The reason for the success of the Port District is The Port is prohibited by its charter from selling Port District land.

As Mayor, I will no longer sell city owned land. I will make City owned land available to lease for 60 years for projects that are designated for low and moderate income.

The San Diego pension fund is out of control. Todd Gloria is vested in the City pension fund and he will retire on a pension of hundreds of thousands of dollars. The solution for the pension program is to put all new employees for any City of San Diego job on Social security. City employees and career politicians like Gloria would make social security better if they were subject to what 60% of this country has for a retirement plan.

I want to transform the nightmare of downtown Horton Plaza into a “fifteen minute city.”

The idea of a “fifteen minute city” is that all functions of a city should be accessible to the residents within 15 minutes of where they live.
