InfoCommissioner Clack, a native of Tennessee, attended Tennessee State University after graduating from high school with honors. After achieving her BS in Education, Brenda moved to Detroit and would later relocate to Flint, Michigan. Subsequently, Brenda Clack immersed herself in civic and social organizations such as the NAACP, Urban League and various church tutorial programs. She also endorsed various senior citizens organizations and served as a Precinct Delegate. Mrs. Clack also served in many capacities with the local United Teachers of Flint Union and the Michigan Educational Association. Teaching has always been her first love, allowing her to mentor hundreds of students in the Flint Public School system.

Prior to her election to the MI State House of Representatives, she was a High School History and Economics Teacher for 32 years. During her teaching tenure, Mrs. Clack was selected as Michigan’s Economic teacher of the year in 1995 and was awarded Flint’s Optimist Outstanding Achievement in Education Award in 1996. Recently, she was honored by being inducted into Phi Delta Kappa Hall of Fame.

In November, 2002, Mrs. Clack was elected to the Michigan House of Representatives’ 34th District and served on the following House Standing Committees: Chair, Family & Children Services, Education, Health Policy and New Economy & Quality of Life. Brenda, is also a member of the Michigan House Urban Caucus and Michigan House Civics Commission. Her devotion and alliance was shown when she Co-Chaired the Michigan Legislative Black Caucus’ commemoration of the Brown v. Board of Education’s 50th Anniversary Celebration and the Michigan Minority Health Summit.

Furthermore, Brenda Clack was appointed by Michigan’s Governor Jennifer Granholm to serve on the National Governors Association Policy Academy and the Interagency Council for Infants and Toddlers with Developmental Disabilities. Moreover, she was appointed by former Governor James Blanchard to the Michigan Testing and Certification Board. In 2005, Rep. Clack was recognized by Michigan Children’s for advocacy on behalf of children and families. She has been honored with the Michigan After-School Partnership Award, Mission of Peace’s Community Representation Award and National Association of Human Rights Workers' 2008 Human Rights Legislative Award. Rep. Clack was also recognized by the Michigan State Medical Society for her leadership in passing smoking ban legislation. Recently, Rep. Clack was appointed to the National Conference of State Legislators’ Health and Human Services & Welfare Standing Committees.

Brenda Clack is a faithful member of Vernon Chapel AME Church in Flint. She is currently married to former Genesee County Commissioner Floyd Clack and is the mother of two, Michael and Mia.
