Info | Peterson currently serves as the Board Treasurer and on several SWCD committees including the Rice County Forestry Committee, Zumbro One Watershed One Plan Policy Committee, the Budget Committee, and the Operational Handbook Committee.
After growing up in a farming community in western Minnesota, Peterson attended the University of Minnesota and graduated with degrees in biology and forestry. He then began a 36-year career with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Forestry Division in 1983 and served at several locations statewide. The last 30 years were in Faribault where he worked on conservation and forestry projects with landowners in Rice and the surrounding counties. Peterson also led a statewide forestry conservation easement program during the last 15 years of his career before retiring in 2018.
Peterson has been a long-time member and volunteered in several organizations including the Society of American Foresters, Minnesota Forestry Association, Riverbend Nature Center, the FFA Annual Forestry Contest, and others.
Peterson has implemented numerous habitat and pollinator plantings at his property in Faribault. Over a dozen trees, scores of shrubs, and hundreds of wildflowers have been planted and maintained by him and his wife Marianne to benefit birds, bees, butterflies, and other pollinators.
