| Info | Sheriff Tom Burch brings 28 years of Law Enforcement experience with Cass County; including 8 years as Patrol Sergeant and 10 years as Chief Deputy to the Office of Cass County Sheriff. Tom started with the Sheriff's Office in an internship position. Soon he was hired in a part time Deputy position, eventually becoming full time in 1987. In 1992 Tom was promoted to Sergeant, a position he held until 2000. He was then promoted to the Chief Deputy position by Sheriff Fisher, an administrative role in the Sheriff's Office that he has performed for the last 10 years. Also during this time Tom was a founding member and Emergency Response Unit (E.R.U) Team Leader, a vital role in the combating of methamphetamine manufacturing labs. Tom holds a seat on the Board of Directors for the Northwest Training Center in Bemidji. Tom is a member of several professional organizations including Minnesota Sheriff Association - Sustaining Member, Minnesota Police & Police Officers Association, and Arrowhead Law Enforcement Association.
Sheriff Burch graduated from Northland High School in Remer, Hibbing Community College, and the University of Minnesota. Tom is a lifelong resident of Cass County and currently resides in the Remer area with his wife Gina and their three daughters. Tom is active in community, county and statewide organizations including; Congregational Church Fundraising, Northland School Booster Club Fundraisers and Ducks Unlimited.
Sheriff Burch has excelled in obtaining both federal and state grant funding for the Office, a very important role in this time of economic downturn and shortfalls in budgets and funding. Burch can be credited for securing hundreds of thousands of dollars in grant funding.
