I was born and raised in southern Augusta County. I am a proud graduate of Stuarts Draft High School, class of 1972. I received a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from East Tennessee State University in 1976. After graduation, I accepted a job with the VA State Police as Trooper for the counties of Arlington & Fairfax. I spent 10 years in Northern Virginia before transferring to Rockbridge County in 1986 with my wife and three young daughters. In 1988, I graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a Master of Science in Risk Management.
My desire to serve, help and protect others led me to my career in law enforcement. The same desire prompted me to get involved in local government. During my lifetime, I have held different elected positions allowing me the opportunity to serve my community. In 1996, I was elected to the Rockbridge County School Board, serving for 10 years, 5 as the chairman. While serving on the school board, my life changed significantly when my wife of 23 years lost her battle with ovarian cancer in 1999.
In 2003, I retired after 25 years of service with the Virginia State Police. I began working as a contractor, remodeling houses. During this time I met my wife Ellen and we married in 2007. Together we share five beautiful daughters, three sons-in-law, five grandchildren and two dogs. (Actually, the dogs are hers! They love her and tolerate me!) We also share a passion for community service, gardening and spending time with our precious family.
In 2012, I was elected to my first term as the South River District Representative on the Rockbridge County Board of Supervisors. I served as chairman for my first two years on the board and am currently finishing the third year of my second elected term.
I participate in various committees and boards such as RANA, The Virginia Horse Center, The Chamber of Commerce, Tourism Board, Solid Waste and The Personnel Policy Committee. I’ve been a very active and loyal member of the Rockbridge Area Republican Party since 2011.
All of my experience and years of public service have prepared me to take the next step and run for a seat in the VA House of Delegates. This role will enable me to continue working on issues concerning the constituents of Rockbridge, Bath, Southern Augusta and Amherst.
