InfoOn November 8, 2018, Governor Nathan Deal appointed Robyn A. Crittenden to serve as Georgia Secretary of State following the resignation of Brian P. Kemp. Secretary Crittenden is Georgia’s 23rd Secretary of State, charged with conducting secure, accessible, and fair elections, the registration of corporations, and the regulation of securities, charities, and professional licensees.

Previously, Secretary Crittenden served as Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Human Services (DHS). As DHS Commissioner, Crittenden oversaw a $1.9 billion budget and 9,400 employees tasked with strengthening Georgia families and protecting vulnerable children and adults from abuse, neglect and exploitation. Governor Deal appointed Crittenden to lead DHS in July of 2015.

During her tenure as DHS Commissioner, she brought about significant changes in technology to enhance human services available to Georgians. Among these were Georgia Gateway, which provides customers with a single point of access for public assistance programs, and the Child Support Mobile App, which allows parents to perform case actions on their mobile devices. These innovations won national awards.

Secretary Crittenden co-chairs the Older Adults Cabinet with First Lady Sandra Deal, working to improve the well-being of older Georgians. Her work in combatting senior hunger is nationally recognized, as Georgia is the first state to have a comprehensive State Plan on Senior Hunger.

Previously, Secretary Crittenden served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the Georgia Student Finance Commission, where she promoted increased access to education for Georgians beyond high school. She also has served as General Counsel at Morehouse College, Executive Vice President and General Counsel at the Georgia Student Finance Commission, and Assistant Vice Chancellor of Legal Affairs - Contracts for the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia. She also was an Assistant County Attorney in DeKalb County and an Associate at the law firm of Powell, Goldstein, Frazer & Murphy.

Secretary Crittenden received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Yale University and her Juris Doctorate from the University of Michigan School of Law. She and her daughter reside in Tucker, Georgia.
